Bay Beach Project
The Bay Beach Renovation project is proceeding ahead of schedule. After the pool area was excavated to the proper shape and depth, the plumbing was put in place and a framework grid with 3/8-inch steel reinforcing rods (rebar) constructed. The rebar rods are spaced about 10 inches apart, and secured together with wire. The project was inspected by Suffolk County Department of Health on Friday 10/21, and approval was given to proceed with the next stage. The pool crew will now spray 8-10 inches of gunite (a mixture of cement and sand) around the rebar to form the ‘shell’ of the pool. The coping will then be put on after the gunite cures and hardens. In the spring, the gunite will be ‘finished’ with the application of a layer of marlite. Attached are pictures of the framework and rebar.

SIDEWALK RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT
The re-paving work on Ivy Walk from Neptune to the ocean has now been completed.
As one of the Seaview walks most in need of repair and elevation to prevent years of chronic flooding and serious safety concerns, Ivy also has the distinction of being the first walk to be completely renovated from the bay to the ocean.

The Seaview staff and our paving contractor are now working their way from Ivy Walk east along Thompson (see photo below).

As Larry and the Seaview crew brought in fill and graded Juniper Walk in preparation for re-paving, it was determined that Juniper was much lower than previously thought. In some places, the walk will have to be raised as much as 16” to 18” to mitigate the serious flooding conditions. See picture below of Juniper after a rainstorm.

REMINDER –
All wagons must be removed by November 15th. There are still a number of wagons remaining in the wagon park.

“Dig We Must” – October 11, 2011
Another summer has sadly come to an end, but Larry Mattiasen and our Seaview staff are taking full advantage of good fall weather to push ahead on our previously scheduled 2011-2012 infrastructure projects.

Reminders – The warm weather keeps us going back out to the beach, and there are still many wagons remaining in the wagon park. All wagons must be removed by November 15th..
All boats must be removed from the Seaview boat basin by Sunday October 16th. The boat basin will be closed off thereafter to take advantage of the calm fall weather for the on-going repair and reconstruction work.

the preparation materials being put down.

Bay Beach Project: The old pool was demolished and all the debris was removed by the Seaview crew over the past few weeks. The pool contractor (All Island) commenced work this Monday on the new bay beach pool. They have already started excavating and prepping the site for the new pool.
The septic tank for the new bathrooms at the Bay Beach is being constructed by the Seaview crew.
Below is a picture of the septic tank foundation on Tuesday.
SIDEWALK REPAIR PROJECT
After four weeks of preparation by the Seaview staff, the streets designated to be renovated this fall have been prepared, and the new pavers are in the process of being installed. On Tuesday, the paver contractor started on Ivy Street towards the ocean.

After Ivy is completed, the pavers will be installed going east on Thompson to Juniper.
Juniper will then be paved all the way from Bay Walk to the ocean.
We will keep you updated on the progress of all the infrastructure repairs and construction. You can always contact the Seaview Board of Directors with questions or comments by emailing seaviewfeedback@gmail.com.

The sidewalk renovation program in Seaview is now moving into its fifth year. This fall's project will complete the final section of Ivy Walk (from Neptune to the ocean). The entire length of Juniper from Baywalk to the ocean will also be raised and repaved, and well as the 'connecting' section of Thompson between Ivy and Juniper. These walks were chosen according to the criteria that have been used to select all the walks completed to date. Safety and liability concerns are paramount, followed by flood mitigation, logistical factors, efficiency, and cost.

Here is a picture of the flooding on Juniper Street after a recent rain storm.
The pace of the boat basin repair program that was continued over the summer has sped up now that there are fewer boats in the basin. Larry and his crew have constructed a temporary walk to allow them to rebuild the east section of bulkhead along G street. Work will continue as long as the weather holds up, and then start again in the spring.
These projects are being financed out of the Seaview operating budget.

The Bay Beach Pool Project has commenced with the demolition of the old pool and the basketball court. The playground equipment and the gazebo have been temporarily relocated to allow the construction to start. They will be restored upon the completion of this winter’s construction. Attached are some pictures of the pool being dismantled.

We will be sending out updates from time to time, or if an important situation arises in the community .
Have a safe and healthy fall and winter. See you in the spring . . . .
“Dig We Must” – May 27, 2011
Seaview has been a very busy place in the last several weeks.
The Verizon telephone pole has been removed from our walkway near the ferry dock and Seaview Market. The SVA Board worked very hard to get Verizon and LIPA to remove this safety hazard. Verizon removed it at no cost to Seaview and LIPA relocated their electrical wires onto the new pole, also at no cost.

The Seaview Marina has an all new bulkhead and decking on the south side on our marina between F and G Streets. This necessary repair was accomplished by Larry Mattiasen (the Seaview Manager) and our staff for approximately 2/3 the cost of our employing the services of an outside contractor.

The paver project is almost complete with the completion of Baywalk and A Street in time for this holiday weekend. We have attached pictures to show you how nice it looks. We still need to complete the individual aprons of the residents that have a newly paved street outside their homes. In the weeks to come, the Seaview crew will be replacing 27 concrete slabs that are in need of repair with newly poured concrete.

The Seaview staff has been busy getting the tennis
courts and the bay beach ready too. Bay steps have already been installed (ahead of schedule) on C Street and the bay.
Our private security officers will be in Seaview this holiday weekend and will be available should an emergency or problem arise.
Wishing everyone a very happy, healthy and safe holiday weekend. Welcome back.
